Growth of the economy and prosperity are always closely connected with rapid development in the field of transport. With transport development, ever-new infrastructures are required and demands on planning organisation, financing and marketing are increasing. On the reverse side of the coin, however, more and more people suffer from the negative impacts of increasing transport. For despite technological optimisation, the current load on the environment – polluting emissions and noise emissions – is too high. Moreover, the increasing consumption of fossil fuels endangers the climate and the future energy supply – the transport industry cannot cover all the resulting costs. INFRAS is researching more sustainable designs for environmentally friendly and socially compatible transport and to this purpose is collaborating increasingly with international research committees.
