The Handbook of Emission Factors for Road Traffic (HBEFA) was developed by INFRAS. It is a standard for calculating vehicle emissions in different traffic situations. The HBEFA has now undergone another comprehensive update.

The Handbook Emission Factors for Road Transport (HBEFA) developed by INFRAS provides regularly updated emission data for all common vehicle categories. For Version 5.1, a comprehensive update of all contents was carried out.
Significantly more base emission factors
The new version represents a substantial extension of contents compared to previous versions, with additional pollutants, subsegments, and about five times as many base emission factors as in HBEFA 4.2. Furthermore, it is implemented as a user-friendlier Python-based client-server solution (as opposed to the previous MS Access-based versions).
A special focus regarding contents was set on cold start (cold start extra emissions of heavy-duty vehicles and battery-electric vehicles are considered for the first time), non-exhaust pollutants (detailed emission factors by processes, subsegments, and traffic situations are available), non-regulated pollutants, and tampering and malfunctions of SCR catalysts in trucks.
