Action Plan for Water Protection in Agriculture for the Lake Constance Region

In 1996, the environmental commission of the international conference for the Lake of Constance set up a working group to compile a plan of measures for water protection in agriculture for the Lake of Constance region. Five Swiss cantons, the German Länder of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg, and the Austrian Land of Voralberg are represented in the working group. INFRAS supported the group and coached the meetings. The action plan of measures was completed in a draft stage in the summer of 1998 and is currently being discussed in the governmental bodies of the region. It contains specifications concerning the current situation (current pollution of water, applied measures for emissions reduction, implementation instruments at different governmental levels) and the need for further action. An action plan for the next five years is also presented. The second phase currently in progress is working out concrete steps and preparing for implementation of the action plan.
