CDM in China

June 23, 2010

INFRAS was contributing to a wider CDM in China study which was published by the Chinese government and the World Bank, supported by the Govt of Norway and Switzerland (SECO) in form of a conference edition that takes stock of recent CDM developments and achievements in China. This updated study takes stock of recent CDM developments and achievements in China, tracks the process by which China has become the world’s largest Certified Emission Reduction (CER) supplier, and shows how the country has successfully developed added value by leveraging carbon finance to support its domestic sustainable development priorities. Furthermore, the study is pointing out the potential of CDM opportunities that have arisen during the Kyoto Protocol commitment period to build a solid system that also meets national objectives under the National Climate Change Program and its CDM strategy. Preliminary results of the analysis have already been presented in 2009 at the Conference on the International Dimensions of Climate Policies at the University of Bern. The final version of the CDM in China study can be downloaded here.
