Cleaner Technology Promotion India

Jan. 1, 2003
In a world of global industrial production, the government of India, various state governments and industrial leaders have a great interest in upgrading the local capacities of the various actors involved to adopt and implement cleaner production technologies. The project is designed to strengthen these capacities in three sectors (dye and dye intermediates, automobile suppliers and energy co-generation) in two states (Gujarat and Karnataka). The general approach relies on identifying a demand for cleaner technologies in the industries within these sectors and sourcing a matching technology in Switzerland or an OECD country. As the results achieved in the first two years of the project were below expectations, INFRAS was entrusted with a mandate as a facilitator to analyse the situation and to support UNIDO and seco in refocussing and redirecting the project. Since early 2006 (second phase of the project) INFRAS is assisting the International Reference Centre in an attempt to improve performance though a new focus on industrial CDM-(Kyoto mechanism-)projects and support to the management units of industrial clusters in Gujarat and Karnataka.
