Many countries have put climate change adaptation on their political agenda and some have developed national adaptation strategies. Scientific analyses such as risk and vulnerability assessments are widely used as a basis for strategy development. The approaches are differing significantly regarding methodology and thematic focus. Experiences in Europe highlight the increasing relevance of risk and vulnerability assessments for the development of national adaptation strategies, in particular for priority setting and adaptation measurement planning. The Federal Office for the Environment has initiated an exchange between key European actors involved in developing and implementing such assessments. INFRAS was responsible for conceptualization and moderation of this exchange.
