Mollis Airport, a former military airbase, shall become a dynamic civil airport. However, is it possible to finance the operation privately? What kind of economic effect will the different possibilities regarding its usage have for the Canton of Glarus? To resolve these issues, INFRAS was commissioned by the Canton of Glarus to conduct an efficiency analysis and a potential analysis .Three scenarios were developed, based on experiences with similar airports. The economic analysis shows that the main scenario, a broad usage of the airport, is the most attractive as jobs and value added might be expanded. However, the business plan made shows that when undertaken by a private operator, this alternative is only possible at great cost and only feasible with public support.The economic analysis provided by INFRAS was able to strengthen the current strategy of the Canton so that the search for a private operator could be launched.
