ERT Uganda: Rural Electrification through Mini Grids
Dec. 1, 2004
The ERT Uganda Programme is designed to improve the energy supply in rural areas of Uganda, in an area where only about 1% of the population has access to electricity, as energy is increasingly recognised as a driving factor for rural development. One of the project components is the implementation of a series of renewnable energy based (small hydropower, biomass and PV) power generation projects in rural areas. Within this framework, the main objective of the INFRAS Team's specific contribution was to facilitate the process of bringing two of the flagship (or fast track) projects, the West Nile and the Kisiizi RE-Mini-Grid-project, off-the ground, with a particular view to the financial closure of the two projects.
