On behalf of Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Community, a consortium consisting of WU Vienna, Ecologic Berlin, IPPR London and INFRAS has developed on the basis of an analysis of Eurostat's sustainable development indicators both the 2009 and 2011 monitoring reports of the EU sustainable development strategy. INFRAS has worked on three of the ten key issues of sustainable development: public health, social inclusion and sustainable transport. The 2011 monitoring report has been published in November 2011 and can be downloaded here. Considering that nearly half of the main indicators are moving in a moderately unfavourable direction, it cannot yet be concluded that the European union is on a pathway to sustainable development.
