On behalf of the Federal Office of Public Health (BAG), INFRAS has examined the functionality and effectiveness of the mandatory notification system for transmittable diseases. The results of the evaluation show that the mandatory notification system is an important and well-working tool which is accepted by all actors involved. The requirements of the International Health Regulations and of the Swiss Epidemics Law are met. The notification system is designed effectively and efficiently to the most extent. Fundamental changes are not necessary. However, some improvements regarding the compliance and the quality of the notification systems are advisable.
