Project on Human and Institutional Development in Ecological Refrigeration (HIDECOR)

April 1, 2005

The HIDECOR project developed a unique and innovative institutional set-up to provide quality training in a cost effective manner to a large number of refrigeration service technicians geographically widely distributed over various regions in India. Industry partners were involved from the beginning providing training to technicians from small and low income service enterprises in the informal sector, along with their own service technicians. The dissemination and outreach strategy of HIDECOR was based on the principle of technology neutrality: Equal weight was given to good practices developed for HFC134a, HC and CFC-12 based technologies. The project also established a close cooperation with the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) system. The ITI training syllabus was revised to include non-CFC refrigerants, emission control measures and retrofitting of CFC appliances. INFRAS has started up the project through a pilot phase under a mandate from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). The main phase was implemented by a consortium of SWISSCONTACT and IT Power India Ltd while INFRAS continued to provide backstopping support throughout the project duration.
