SO2 and benzene concentrations in Switzerland

Nov. 13, 2013
Ambient concentrations of SO2 and benzene were modelled for Switzerland. The results are based on emission inventories and dispersion modelling. In the last years the concentrations of both pollutants have decreased due to realised reduction measures: The population averaged mean concentration of SO2 decreased from 28.4 μg/m3 (1980) to 2.3 μg/m3 (2010), benzene from 3.2 μg/m3 (1990) to 0.7 μg/m3 (2010). The largest contributors are industry for SO2 and traffic for benzene. For both pollutants further reductions are expected until 2020.
