The market for consultants in international cooperation in Switzerland
May 9, 2008
On behalf of cinfo, the information centre for professions relating to international cooperation, INFRAS has analysed the Swiss market for consultants in international cooperation. For a few years, contract volumes have been decreasing. Swiss organisations are awarding more smaller and shorter contracts than in the past. The decline of the Swiss private sector in consulting in international cooperation is striking: In 2006, the private sector is barely carrying out 15% of all contract volumes of SDC. Foreign consultants have become equally strong. The study also pinpoints the high share of direct contracting and the lack of public tenders in international cooperation consulting. Harmonisation and alignment efforts in development cooperation with shifts in competence and responsibilities to developing countries will influence the consulting market and the skills in demand in the Swiss consulting market. The study (in German only) and an executive summary in English can be downloaded here.
