Working Aid Climate Change and Spatial Development

Dec. 4, 2013
Many effects of climate change have an influence on spatial planning, as for example heat waves or snow uncertainties for lower lying skiing regions. Planners have to address the spatial consequences of climate change at an early stage and plan proactively. On behalf of the Swiss Federal Office for Spatial Development (ARE), INFRAS prepared a correspondent working aid. By showing specific challenges and concrete examples from the work practice, the working aid indicates action approaches for spatial planning: Assume its cross-cutting role, include climate change in the planning processes, encourage adaptive spatial structures and mediate where conflicts over use of natural resources occur.
