David Baumann

David Baumann works in the two subject fields Environment/Climate/Energy and Economy/Society, focusing on macroeconomic analysis, climate and energy economics, and economic modelling. He combines robust quantitative and qualitative competencies with extensive modelling experience.

David studied economics at the University of Bern, specialising in trade and international development. In his master’s thesis, he analysed the effect of the Kyoto Protocol on greenhouse gases embodied in traded goods. He subsequently pursued a PhD at the University of Bern with a focus on substitution and growth dynamics in national electricity markets and the international interlinkages of electricity mixes through global value chains, with completion expected in autumn 2025.

Alongside his studies, he completed an internship at the Swiss Federal Office of Energy in the section on market regulation, worked as a research assistant at the University of Bern for the TREE social structure survey of the Swiss National Science Foundation, and contributed to consultancy projects on international climate policy for the Swiss Federal Office for the Environment.
