Financial Incentives For The Promotion Of Energy-Efficient Passenger Cars

Dec. 1, 1999
Promoting energy-efficient vehicles is an important contribution towards the achievement of energy and environmental policy goals. Apart from international and national measures for promoting economical vehicles (mainly through mineral oil taxation), on a Swiss cantonal level the differentiation of motor vehicle taxes according to fuel consumption is under discussion. Within the Energy 2000 Programme, the Swiss cantonal energy directors have commissioned a study for a differentiation of the Swiss cantonal motor vehicle tax, according to fuel consumption. The working group took further financial possibilities (Bonus/Malus-models) as well as the differentiation of exhaust emissions (e.g., NOx and particulate emissions) into consideration.
