Historisation, Sustainable Accessibility and Archiving for Spatial Data

Oct. 6, 2009

The Swiss Geoinformation Law regulates historisation, sustainable accessibility and archiving of core geodata according to federal legislation. As a consequence, ideas regarding an appropriate realisation according to these legal requirements are presently developed by various stakeholders. So far, the responsible Federal and Cantonal offices have dealt with these issues in a very pragmatic way. In general, archiving procedures for digital geoinformation cannot be considered consolidated in Switzerland or abroad. The study tries to present a synopsis of this complex subject from a Swiss point of view, by concentrating mainly on the following aspects:

  • Basic concepts and terminology
  • User requirements
  • Organisation/coordination
  • Technical implementation
  • Costs and financing proposals.

Thus, the study could serve as basis for the elaboration of detailed concepts for sustainable accessibility and archiving of geodata.
