Strategy Development for Transport Modelling in the Federal Department of Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications DETE

Feb. 18, 2003
On behalf of the Federal Office of Spatial Development (FOS) this study analyses the actual status of network-based modelling for passenger and freight transport as well as availability and quality of the required data. This analysis serves as a basis for the presentation and evaluation of three fundamental development paths regarding the organisation of Federal transport modelling. The proposed path coordinator function of FOS envisages a common management of FOS, Swiss Federal Roads Authority (FEDRO) and Federal Office of Transport (FOT) which will in future coordinate the modelling on a Federal level. FOS would serve as an entry point as well as a data portal simplifying access to model-relevant data. Another proposal is the development of bimodal passenger and freight transport models including their periodical updating.
