A levy on electric vehicles ensures long-term road funding

With an increasing number of electric vehicles on the road, mineral oil tax is generating less income. The Federal Council wants to offset this by introducing a compensation levy on electric vehicles. It has published a consultation draft for the introduction of such a levy. INFRAS supported FEDRO together with Ecoplan in drafting the proposal.

Shipping sets course for decarbonization

While fossil-free vehicles are increasingly being used on the roads, diesel engines continue to dominate shipping on Swiss waters. This should change in order to reach the political goal of net-zero by 2050. On behalf of the Swiss Federal Office of Transport and several cantons, INFRAS is investigating the prospects for the decarbonization of shipping in Switzerland.

Updated methodology and calculation

External costs and benefits of transport in Switzerland

Air pollution, accidents, noise and climate change: transport has many costs that are not borne by the transport users themselves. On behalf of the federal government, INFRAS and Ecoplan have updated the methodology for calculating external effects and recalculated the figures for 2021. A new damage cost approach was adopted for calculating climate costs.
