Martin Christoph Soini works in the subject field environment, climate and energy. He primarily focuses on climate policy instruments, energy markets, and renewable energy resources.

He holds a graduate degree in Physics from the Technical University of Munich and spent multiple years in the Netherlands working in experimental semiconductor research. Subsequently, he obtained a master’s degree in Sustainable Energy Systems from Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden, followed by a PhD at the Chair for Energy Efficiency at the University of Geneva. For his dissertation he developed models representing power production and electricity markets in Western Europe as well as novel methods for the analysis of energy storage operation. He authored a report on the potential of renewable district heating commissioned by the International Renewable Energy Agency. On multiple occasions he supported a Zurich-based consulting firm in the fields of building stock energy modeling and the forecasting of electric load curves.
